The official snooker ranking system ranks players based upon their recent performance. The World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association administers it. This listing is updated following each event in the ranking series. To be eligible for the World Snooker Tour a player must hold an current snooker world ranking. Players are seeded based on their ranking and performance in specific tournaments.
The first two years of the snooker ranking were based on three World Championships results: the World Open Championship, UK Championship Championship, and Professional Players Tournament. Each of these events awarded one seed to the winner and two to the runner ups. From 1976 to 1982, there was only one ranking event: the World Championship. The International Open became the fourth ranking championship in 1982. More tournaments were added as the competition grew.
During this time, the World Championship knockout format saw a re-introduction. This was considered the start of modern snooker. Most records are now based on records that date back to 1969. The current total number of titles on the snooker ranking list is 31.
Ray Reardon, the undisputed snooker king, was in the 1970s. He won six consecutive Welsh amateur titles and was also the World Champion. He won the 1974 World Championship, the first ranking event. His record for the most number of ranking titles remained unbroken until 1998 when Steve Davis won it. He retired from snooker in the following years.
Stephen Hendry was one among the most dominant players of the 1990s. He held the number 1 ranking for eight years straight and won seven world titles. He currently holds the all-time ranking title list tied with Ronnie O'Sullivan. However, he has decided to retire from snooker at the end of the 2012 championships.
Judd Trump is the current world ranking snooker winner. His other accomplishments include being named the snooker players of the Year. He is still not in the top 10. He was just one point behind Mark Williams at the start of 2019. Both players will battle it out in the finals, including the 2020 UK Championship and Cazoo Masters.
Another big player in the rankings is Kyren Wilson. He is a Premier League specialist. He is a sports tipster who enjoys playing in both the NBA and MLB. He enjoys playing the NFL and MLB. In the last two seasons, he won four ranking finals and suffered two losses.
Mark Selby, the four-time world champ, was defeated in the semi-finals and quarter-finals of this year's World Championship. He has also struggled with high-profile disappointments in his career.
The fourth Indian Open World Ranking Snooker Tournament is scheduled for September 12-16 in Visakhapatnam (India). A number of celebrities will be watching the action. The event is open to all.
