Straight Pool Rules – How to Play Straight Pool

snooker game

Straight Pool was first created in 15th century. Straight Pool was popular until the 1980s when it became obsolete by nine-ball and eight-ball. It was also featured as a character in The Hustler (1961). The current straight pool record is 714 points, set in 2022 by Jayshaw.

Unlike other games, there are no restrictions on how many object balls can be pocketed in a straight pool game. The shooter is allowed to pocket any ball spotted on the board, except the apex. The shooter can either pocket the ball in an open or safety position, but it does not count towards a point. If the ball is tied up or dead, it is possible to pocket it.

Straight pool has one restriction: the shooter cannot run more than ten balls. When the cue ball is pocketed, the shooter will pocket the last object ball left in the rack. He will then take the last object ball from the table when he is done.

Straight Pool is one the few games that can easily be played with two players. Straight Pool is played on a standard 15 ball rack. Each player may take one ball and break the other 14 in a set. The player who scores the most points wins the game.

The first shot in straight pool is called the opening break. It is usually a softbreak, and the goal is to get the ball in the corner of the pack. The cue ball should then be rolled across three rails to the corner of where you broke.
