The snooker World Championship is a tournament that is watched avidly by fans all over the globe. This event is held annually and is the highlight of the sporting calendar. It was established in 1927 and has been around for more than 90 year. It has contributed to the preservation of snooker in its history.

When it first started, snooker was a cheap and easy way to fill airtime on television. A player could earn a fortune by winning tours or tournaments. At the beginning of the new millennium, snooker became a popular mass-market game. Dennis Taylor and Alex Higgins became the most popular players in the game, helping to popularize it.

Although the building has seen renovations over the past decade it will continue hosting the tournament until at minimum 2027.

Despite the fact World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association taking over the professional game of snooker in 1969, it wasn’t until the 1970s that snooker truly became competitive. In the early 1980s there were 16 players participating in the snooker World Championship. Each of these players gained a little fortune from winning tours and tournaments. By the 1990s the level of competition had increased to the point that prize money was significantly increased.

Ronnie O'Sullivan, the 1997 snooker champion made him the most prominent player in the world. In the final, he beat Mick Price 18-13. His performance was a huge success in snooker. He is considered to be the greatest player in snooker and has a reputation of bringing drama and excitement onto the table.

There have been some great matches to be had in the snooker world championship. One such match occurred in 1985. Two days of emotion and drama saw two of the largest semi-finals reach the final.

The climax of the final was watched by the largest post-midnight audience on any channel. At the end of the match, Michael Jordan returned to the chair and was welcomed by the audience with a broad smile.
