Shaun Murphy - Snooker Player Profile

Shaun Murphy is an international snooker player. He is known for his long-potting and straight cue actions. He has achieved over 400 century breaks in his career, including the second maximum break in the Championship League in 2014.

Murphy was ranked number 3 in the world at start to the 2008/2009 Season. He fell to number seven during the 2010/2011 campaign. He won the Players Tour Championship in 2011 and finished his career Triple Crown. Murphy was considered a big underdog, so it was a surprise win. He then reached the finals at the UK Championship in 2012. He was defeated by Judd Trump, the eventual winner.

Murphy is considered a talented player. He has also achieved many firsts throughout his career. His first 147 break, first ranking title and first appearance at the World Snooker Championship are just a few of his many firsts.

He started his career in 1998 on the Challenge Tour. Also known as the UK Tour. Tony, his dad, was a professional player golfer. He was bullied in school as a teenager. He attended homeschooling classes, but did not see his mother until age 19. Elaine, his wife, found him one year later. They were married in 2006. Despite his family's misgivings, the couple were engaged in 2014.

In his career, Shaun has won over PS3 million in prize money. He has won seven tournaments that are not ranking. He has also participated in eight tournaments that rank him, reaching the quarterfinals for two.

At the start to the 2004/2005 season, his ranking was number four in world. He was also the winner of the Brugge Open, and the Welsh Open. He was also diagnosed with Savant Syndrome.


He won the World Championship 2005. The BBC named him Sportsman of the Year the next year. He then became a San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital, California surgical resident.

Murphy was an awkward young boy who struggled to communicate with other people. Murphy may have had a poor social life because of this. Although he has had many complicated relationships with women, he is able to resolve these issues. During one of his matches, he even proposed to his girlfriend, Elaine, at a restaurant in Ireland.

When he was 15, he was coached by Ray Reardon. From then on, he was coached by Ray Reardon. He continued working with Steve Prest through 2006. Willie Thorne was his coach for the 2007/2008 season. He won the Challenge Tour's fourth and third events.

Murphy won China's Wuxi Classic. After that, Murphy entered the elite top 16. His next appearance was at the inaugural Northern Ireland Trophy. Despite the tournament's shortest qualifying rounds of just five frames, he reached his quarterfinals and defeated teenage Luca Brecel.

He went on winning the German Masters, Ruhr Championships, and the inaugural Northern Ireland Trophy. He remained ranked number three for the entire 2008/2009 season. During that same season, he reached the semi-finals of the Shanghai Masters and the UK Championship.
