Joshua Filler (reigning World Pool and Billiards Association nine-ball champion) will be his opponent in the final. Both men were able to overcome difficult draw conditions. Filler defeated Gerson Martinez from Peru in the final round, while Van Boening took on Fedor Gorst of Russia. Filler was up to 6-2, while the Americans led the first phase matches.
Van Boening won the 64-player bracket as the top seed. He spent hours practicing his break shot in Qatar. He was able to breeze past his four first opponents by practicing his break shot. He beat Orcollo and beat David Alcaide the next round.
