Steve Davis was a prominent force during the early days of snooker being a popular television sport. He became six-time world champion during his career and won several ranking event titles. He is one of the most popular and accomplished snooker players of all time and is also a keen poker player. Davis has also written several books about his career and the role he played as a director for the WPBSA. His role as a TV commentator and director for the Cue Zone Into Schools initiative has made him a wealthier individual.

Steve Davis turned professional in 1978, at the age of 17. At the Pontin Open, he made his debut in a ranking event. He was beaten by Tony Meo. Davis won several titles following his first season at the professional level, including three B&H Masters held at Wembley.

Davis's professional career was slow at first, but he quickly rose to prominence as the world’s best snooker players. He won five world titles and the 1989 Triple Crown. He was also a first player to win both the UK Championship and the world title. He also won many other tournaments in the 1980s.

In the 1990s Davis' dominance started to decline and he lost many records to Stephen Hendry. He also lost the World Championship against Jimmy White, which saw his ranking slip to second in the official rankings. Ronnie O'Sullivan lost his 1997 title to Davis, and Davis was unable again to defend it. This loss caused him to fall out the top 16 rankings for first time in many, many years.

Davis showed signs of improvement after a slow start to the second season. He reached the quarterfinals of the Shanghai Masters as well as the Grand Prix. He was also named as BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 1988. He was given the OBE for his contributions to snooker in 2001. He is also a keen poker player and has hosted a weekly radio show on Phoenix FM. In 2010, he made his 30th appearance on The Crucible.

Davis was at the top for the second season. He won many ranking events titles and reached to the final at the Welsh Open. His biggest achievement, though, was being able to remain in the top 16 on his 50th birthday. He was also a PTC player for many years, including the 2012 PTC Masters. He was one three-times past winner of the PTC quarterfinals.
